| WEBSINING 2008: PROCES/SYONOn 12 February 2008, at a meeting with NCCA-PMED it was decided that the Committee on Visual Arts (CVA) would take back budgetary and operational control of the "Websining: Process/yon" project. "Connect the Dots"175 viewsArtist: Deodato Mabines Pairez (Setagaya Tokyo, JAPAN)
Artist’s Statement:It is not surprising that at the turn of the millennium Filipino Diaspora reached its full swing since after internal migration in the archipelago was orchestrated by colonizing nations; breaking the organic interpersonal relationship that binds the foundation of diverse Human community. These colonizing powers taking advantage from what they get in their obsession with territorial expansion, ethnic minorities were subjugated and compelled to assimilate the domesticated norms of Western Civilization- a mechanic interpersonal relationship. Thus, constructed unity surfaced along the historical process and the birth of the “nation” (Philippines) has come to exist only to reinforce Hegemony. My Still Digital Image attempts to discuss the said problem above while it sideways to its crucial sub-topics such as identity, disintegration, hegemony and breaking of national borders. The imaginary national borders imposed by New World Order must cease to exist beyond the capacity of memory. Only through this process Diaspora or Exodus will loose its meaning until it paves the way for a fertile genuine life of organic community. Connect the dots, displace geography.

"Tradition Decision"276 viewsArtist: Charles Miguel Y. Gococo (Mandaluyong City)
Description of Work: Traditions are customs that have been present since time immemorial, passed from generation to generation. To contradict these traditions will only disappoint and frustrate the people who strongly believe in them. The artwork shows a man contemplating on a decision: whether to contest a tradition; or blindly continue abiding by such belief. A man put under so much pressure has a tendency to take the easy way out, to hide in the dark or just ending it all. But somewhere amidst the chaos in his mind, he still hangs on a single thread of hope that someone would understand.
